Off the Streets: 21st - 25th August

A week of workshops for children and young people designed to entertain and inspire!
Below is a run down of available workshops and a timetable of the week. To book a place in any of the workshops click on the booking links next to the day your choice appears on the timetable. You can also book tickets with cash by visiting our office (open Monday – Friday 9.00am – 3.00pm).

WORKSHOPS

BIRDS OF PREY

Alun Wells from the Pitcombe Rock Falconry is back with his birds of prey! A great chance to get up close to a variety birds and Alun provides a fascinating and educational profile of the birds you meet.

This workshop is for all ages (under 8’s to be accompanied) and will be at Paddington Farm, Thursday 24th August, 1pm – 3pm

Cost £3.50 -Parent/Carer free

COOKERY

This popular workshop is back! Led again by Ann Webb – the participants will be making a vegetarian bread based pizza, followed by a batch of tasty muffins.

This workshop is for 8’s and over and will be held at Millfield Prep School. Edgarley BA6 8LD. There are two sessions available on Wednesday 23rd August. Session 1: 10am – 12.30pm and session 2: 1.30pm – 4pm

Cost £8.00 – including ingredients

DANCE

Lula May (from Fuse Circus) will be providing a fantastic day of dance tuition, choreography and performance.

This workshop is for 8’s and over and will be held at Abbey House, Chilkwell Street BA6 8DH on Tuesday 22nd August, 10am – 3pm

DRAMA

Maxine Ridout-Prime from Taking the Space Theatre is back to provide a whole day workshop for budding actors to learn drama skills and create a performance for parents.

This workshop is for 8’s and over and will be held at Abbey House, Chilkwell Street BA6 8DH on Thursday 24th August, 10am – 3pm

DRUM RUNNERS

Interactive Junk Music Workshops which include learning and playing rhythms with an end of day performance.

This workshop is open to all ages – under 8’s s to be accompanied. It will be held at Paddington Farm on Friday 25th August, 10am – 3pm

Cost £5.50 – Parent/Carer free

FARM DAY

An all day adventure exploring the grounds and animals at Paddington Farm. Led by farm manager Michael Lowe. this is a great day for anyone who likes to get out in the country!

There are 2 Farm Day workshops: 8’s and over – Tuesday 22nd August 10am – 3pm. Under 8’s – Wednesday 23rd August 10am – 3pm

Cost £5.50 – Parent/Carer free

GRAFFITI WORKSHOP

Learn graffiti techniques and create your own graffiti artwork under the expert tuition of Sym from MOAUK.

This workshop is for 8’s and over and will be held at the Lost Projects base, Wells Road Trading Estate BA6 9QU. There are 2 sessions available: Thursday 24th August and Friday 25th August 11am – 2pm

HULA HOOPING WORKSHOP

A unique chance to make, tape and learn the art of Hula Hooping, learning fab moves to impress your friends, from Children’s World’s Hula expert – Angela Bolton!

This workshop is for 8’s and over and will be held at Paddington Farm. There are 2 sessions available: Monday 21st August, 12pm – 3pm, and Thursday 24th August, 10am – 1pm

Cost £5.50 – including hula hoop

MUSIC AND SONGWRITING

Led by Charlie and Ian Miller, the group will work together to create and record a song from scratch. A keyboard and electric drum kit will be available and participants are invited to bring their own instruments too. After the workshop the final song will be edited and be available for the participants to download.

This workshop is for 8’s and over and will be held at the Avalon Centre, King St BA6 9JY on Monday 21st August 10am – 3pm

SCIENCE

Amazing and fun demonstrations on aspects of science from Bill Bailey, with audience participation – perfect for inquisitive minds!

There are 2 sessions available: 10am – 11.30am (under 8’s) and 12.30pm – 2pm (8+). They will be held at the Avalon Centre, King St. BA6 9JY on Friday 25th August.

SKATEBOARDING WORKSHOP

A day of skateboarding tuition led by the team at Lost Projects -learn basic skills as a beginner and if you are a bit more advanced spend time honing your skills!

Held at the Lost Projects base Wells Road Trading Estate BA6 9QU, there are 2 sessions available for 8’s and over – Monday 21st August 10am – 3pm and Tuesday 22nd August 10am – 3pm

STORYTELLING with TOR THEATRE

For the younger group, it will be a fun filled session of interactive stories. The older group is drama based, encouraging story creation and development – a fun and entertaining session for creative minds! Both workshops are led by David Reakes from Tor Theatre

This workshops will be held at Paddington Farm on Monday 21st August. There are 2 sessions available: 8’s and over 10am – 12pm and under 8’s 1pm – 3pm

YEAST CRAFT WORKSHOP

Sustainable Craft with Yeast Scrap store – create your own craft items using recycled and repurposed materials.

Held at Yeast’s base, Unit 7 Dyehouse Lane BA6 9LZ, there are 2 sessions available: 8’s and over, Tuesday 22nd August 1pm – 3pm, and under 8’s, Thursday 24th August 1pm – 3pm

Important Notes

Please bring a packed lunch and drink for the whole day workshops.
For the over 8’s workshops, please arrive 10 – 15 minutes early to complete our consent form.
