This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop will equip you with the knowledge and research necessary to feel confident understanding and working with/parenting young people and teenagers.
The 10-12 year age group have seen a huge rise in mental health issues in recent years and there are many reasons for this. We take a look at some of these. The 13-25-year age group are probably the most at risk of severe anxiety, depression, self-harming, suicide, cyber-bullying and feeling overwhelmed.
IN WORKSHOP ONE we will explore and learn about this area in mental health that is in need of more trained professionals, as well as enabling parents to better support their children. We will look at:
*Mental Illness in Young People
*How the Brain Works in Young People and how this differs to the workings of the adult brain
*The current environment – 21st century life for teenagers and young people both before and during Covid-19 and the huge changes and shifts in their environment in a short space of time
*Hormones and Neurotransmitters – which ones are helpful and how better to access and use them
*The Therapeutic Alliance/relationship when working with/parenting teenagers and adolescents
*When working with young people – we take a look at a specific Information Gathering sheet
*Peers, teachers and parents: helping young people understand how to communicate better and more easily
*Solution Focused Questions that work really well with this age group
*How to help them to cope better with stress
*Good stories and Metaphors to use
*Case studies showing how simply by changing the language we use and the way we talk with young people can bring about amazing changes relatively quickly.
